I'm building Clevedon, a real estate financial modelling and underwriting portfolio named after the street I lived on for my final two years at the University of Exeter.
I've spent a lot of time over the last year trying to figure out what it is I actually want to do. I graduated with an economics degree and took a credit-focused analyst role at a company called Octus. On the side, I've found myself drawn to real estate. Part of it is the tangibility, buildings you can drive past and walk into, and I have always worked better when I can visualise the thing I am working on. The other part is that the industry sits at the intersection of finance, macroeconomics and something physical, which suits how I think.
The aim of this commercial real estate modelling portfolio is to help me figure out where I best fit within the industry and how I might want to shape a future career in real estate.
Most of what I know about real estate underwriting itself comes from the A.CRE Financial Modelling Accelerator, which I worked through this year and would recommend to anyone else trying to build the skill set from outside the industry.
